"It is funny how you go to a show to see a band you are crazy about and the opening band has a big impact on you for years to come"

(Tarry Underwood) The Colorado Blues Society's November 2003
interview of  Hubert "Blues" Lawhorn and JD Kelly

"The band, smoking, bluesy, under incredibly tight, precise control, sets off with a couple of dance tunes done not too fast, not too slow, but so right that our feet began moving around the room. 'Cure for the blues is a rockin Groove' that melds perfect jazz rhythms with classic blues ... vocalist Hubert Blues demonstrates an excellent ability to masterfully handle all the notes with his mesmerizing blues fun, and the rest of the band are impeccable. And that's the tone for the show; pounding traditional blues, or even rollicking untraditional R&B as on the Baby, Don't Do That, perfectly set the mood. ‘Lost in the shuffle’ and the occasional rocker like ‘The Craw’, remind us of the band's true roots... "The thing is, while this band plays blues quite well, they also manage to strike a far more fun, traditional groove with numbers such as ‘Tequila’ and 'Mojo Workin'. To dance to traditional, blues, R&B, swing that is impeccably timed and performed is after all, truly a pleasure. The masterful super-ensemble, Rocco "D" Franco, guitar and vocals, Jim Beckstein on Keys and vocals, Ken Hoffman, drums and vocals and the incredible Hubert "Blues" Lawhorn on vocals and Bass guitar is proof that great bands can add up to even more than great music. - Reviewed by Allan Davidson, BluesShack [Best of 2002 bands list]

This is very good old time Blues with a capital "B". I believe the Hubert Blues has found a very cool groove. I can almost imagine myself in one of those Chicago joints, listening to them amidst a smoke filled room with jingling ice in whiskey glasses, scarlet carpets and sleazy women giving dirty looks.  I believe this is a good thing coming...very good hearty vocals and excellent musicians. The horns SUPERB!
